03 / UTM URL BUILDER

Every link deserves
a little context.

Add a source, medium and campaign. We encode your values and keep unrelated destination details.

UTM tags do not measure visits by themselves. Your destination needs compatible analytics. Changing a signed URL can invalidate it.

01 / THE DETAILS

Build a campaign URL people can understand

A UTM URL builder gives campaign links consistent labels without making you assemble separators or escape punctuation by hand. Shortform asks for a destination, source, medium and campaign, with optional term and content fields. It returns a complete address whose entered values are percent-encoded. This helps a name containing spaces, an ampersand or Unicode remain one value instead of accidentally becoming another query entry. The tool runs in your browser and does not send the destination to an analytics provider. It prepares labels; measurement must still happen through compatible analytics on the destination website.

02 / THE DETAILS

Give each field a specific job

Source identifies the origin of the visit, such as newsletter, partner-site or community. Medium describes the channel, such as email or referral. Campaign groups links belonging to one initiative, such as autumn-launch. Term and content can distinguish a keyword or variation when your measurement plan uses them. Shortform requires the first three fields so the result has a useful minimum structure. Keep names meaningful to the person who will read the report later. A long internal project code may be less helpful than a short convention that colleagues can recognize without searching another document.

03 / THE DETAILS

Keep naming consistent across your links

Decide on capitalization, spelling and separators before creating a batch of campaign addresses. Newsletter and newsletter may be treated differently by reporting systems, and small inconsistencies make comparisons harder. Use the same naming convention for related placements rather than inventing a new medium for each button. If an existing URL already has an exact UTM field you enter, this builder replaces that field’s entries. Unrelated query segments preserve their original encoding and order. Review the output with the URL inspector when you need to compare old and new parameters or spot repeated names.

04 / THE DETAILS

Treat destination integrity as part of the campaign

A campaign URL still needs to reach the intended page. Adding labels to a signed or temporary address can invalidate the signature, even when the labels themselves are correctly encoded. Do not change payment, recovery or private download links unless the issuing service documents the operation. Shortform validates the destination’s HTTP or HTTPS syntax but does not visit it, confirm content or test analytics collection. If the original includes tracking you deliberately no longer need, the URL cleaner can remove selected names first. Neither utility decides which business labels you should preserve.

05 / THE DETAILS

Use campaign links in the right places

A reviewed campaign URL can feed the custom URL shortener, making a long destination easier to present while retaining its query. A URL QR code can carry the same public campaign address onto printed material. For several destinations, add campaign links to LinkInBio Creator and label each button clearly. The LinkInBio Link Checker can identify exact duplicate destinations or missing labels in that project, but it does not verify your analytics reports. Avoid interpreting a syntactically valid tag as proof that attribution is working.

06 / THE DETAILS

Review the complete result before copying

Check that the source describes the placement, the medium describes the channel and the campaign matches your intended grouping. Read the destination hostname and path as carefully as the appended labels. The fragment after a hash is retained, so a destination anchor can still be part of the result. If you edit a field after generating a URL, the old result is hidden until you build again. That prevents copying a stale campaign. Clipboard failures produce a manual-copy path. Keep a campaign naming reference outside the tool if multiple people are creating links over time. Agree on naming conventions before launching a campaign. Consistent lowercase labels, readable separators and a simple shared reference reduce accidental fragmentation in reports. Check the completed URL in the intended destination environment first before distributing it widely, especially when existing filters or temporary authorization appear alongside campaign tags.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you
send it.

Clear answers.
No small-print surprises.

Which campaign fields are required?

Source, medium and campaign are required in this builder. Term and content are optional.

Are existing query parameters preserved?

Yes. Unrelated entries retain their raw encoding and order. Entered UTM names replace their existing exact-name entries.

Can UTM values contain spaces or Unicode?

Yes. The builder percent-encodes each entered value so punctuation, spaces and Unicode do not become query separators.

Does the builder include click analytics?

No. UTM tags label campaigns. Compatible analytics at the destination must collect and interpret them.
